Greek ELAS slams government spokesperson Pavlos Marinas for false defence claims
The left‑wing party ELAS released a statement accusing government spokesman Pavlos Marinas of repeatedly lying about Greece’s foreign policy and national defence. ELAS cited several examples, including the suspension of Turkey’s participation in the F‑35 programme after its 2017 purchase of the S‑400 system, the 2018 contract to upgrade 85 F‑16 jets to the F‑16V standard, and the 2019 East Med Act that sought to block the sale of F‑35s to Turkey. The party also reminded Marinas of diplomatic milestones such as the Prespes Agreement, the strategic dialogue with the United States, and the deployment of an FSRU in Alexandroupoli, while criticizing government handling of issues like the Turkish navy incident involving the frigate Barbaros and Greece’s response to the Gaza conflict.
ELAS concluded that, regardless of the government’s broader failures, Marinas should at least refrain from making unfounded statements about national security matters.
