Greek ex‑PM aide Grigoris Dēmētriádēs loses SLAPP suit against Alter Ego Media

The Athens Court of First Instance rejected the first of 22 strategic lawsuits filed by former Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' chief of staff, Grigoris Dēmētriádēs, against Alter Ego Media and journalist Argyris Tsatsoulis. The decision upheld the media's right to reference Dēmētriádēs in reporting on the 2022 wire‑tap scandal, emphasizing that the case has generated extensive public and parliamentary interest.

The ruling noted Dēmētriádēs' former role as General Secretary of the Prime Minister and his involvement in the National Information Service, confirming that his name had already entered the public discourse. The court’s reasoning signals that attempts to silence journalists through SLAPP suits will be scrutinised when the matter is of clear public relevance.
