Greek exports surge while Cyprus trade deficit widens

Greece is experiencing a significant surge in exports, with the Panhellenic Exporters Association reporting a 26.3% increase in June. Total exports for the first half of the year reached €27.6 billion, marking the strongest six-month performance in three years. This growth is driven by broad gains across nine out of ten sectors, including food, industrial products, machinery, and raw materials. Notably, the non-energy core of exports rose by 6.9%, suggesting the trend is rooted in production rather than volatile commodity prices.

In contrast, Cyprus reported a widening trade deficit during the first half of 2026, which reached €4.68 billion. This represents a 15.4% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The deficit was driven by an 8.8% rise in imports, totaling €7.30 billion, while exports fell by 1.2% to €2.62 billion. The imbalance was particularly pronounced in June, as imports rose by 11.9% and exports declined by 9.9%.
