Greek F-16 jets conduct test flights over Nicosia for Cyprus parade

Greek F-16 Viper fighter jets conducted test flights over Nicosia on Tuesday, September 29, as part of preparations for the military parade celebrating the 66th anniversary of Cyprus's independence on October 1.

The Hellenic Air Force aircraft, which feature advanced AESA radar and electronic systems, performed low-altitude flyovers that were highly audible throughout much of the capital. The National Guard of Cyprus had previously notified the public that these flights were scheduled rehearsals and not a cause for concern.

This year's celebrations are expected to feature an enhanced military presence. In addition to the Greek contingent and the Hellenic Force in Cyprus (ELDYK), Egypt will participate in the parade for the first time with an aerial presence. An Egyptian naval patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft has already been stationed at the Andreas Papandreou air base in Paphos, reflecting the strengthening ties between Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt.
