Greek Family Minister Domna Mihailidou Defends Nuclear Family Praise
Domna Mihailidou, Greece's Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, reiterated that the traditional "nuclear family" remains a cornerstone of social cohesion in the country. Speaking at the Fortune Greece Most Powerful Women Summit on May 14, she said she is "deeply grateful to the Greek nuclear family" and that the nation's progress depends heavily on its values.
She later clarified the remarks after they sparked criticism, emphasizing that the ministry’s role is to support every type of family – single‑parent, multi‑child, foster or adoptive – and that the state must provide resources for all household forms. Mihailidou stressed there is no single typology for Greek families and called for inclusive policies.
The comments were highlighted in a televised interview on ERT, where she again asserted, "I am the minister for every family."
