Greek Finance Minister Kyriakos Piraakakis Calls for Fiscal Stability in Constitutional Reform

Finance Minister Kyriakos Piraakakis told parliament that maintaining fiscal stability is a national necessity and warned against any government “buying” the present at the expense of Greece’s future. He highlighted Article 79 of the proposed amendment as a mechanism to prevent political irresponsibility, keep Greece out of repeat memoranda, and retain flexibility for emergency crises.

Piraakakis sharply criticised the opposition’s contradictory stance on Article 16, which concerns private non‑profit universities, arguing that the reform corrects a long‑standing injustice, preserves human capital and boosts the economy while protecting public universities. He also announced plans to enshrine rules for Artificial Intelligence under Article 5Β and to introduce constitutional provisions for a stable investment tax regime, greater transparency and decentralisation.
