Greece projects 2.3% economic growth for 2027
Greek Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis defended the 2027 draft budget, forecasting a 2.3% growth rate, significantly higher than the 1.2% projected for the eurozone. The government anticipates unemployment will drop to 7.9%, its lowest level since 2008, and expects real wages to increase by 1.4% as inflation cools to 2.6%.
While highlighting economic resilience and fiscal stability, Pierrakakis acknowledged that the cost of living remains the primary challenge for households. He noted that despite rising borrowing costs and energy pressures, Greece has maintained higher growth rates than the European average for seven consecutive years.
In Toronto, Deputy Minister Dimitris Markopoulos promoted Greece as an attractive investment destination at the Delphi Economic Forum. He emphasized that the country’s fiscal discipline and 91 tax and contribution reductions since 2019 have shielded it from the market pressures currently affecting larger European economies.
