Greek fire risk map flags high wildfire danger in 15 regions

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection released a daily fire‑risk map for Greece, marking 15 areas as high‑danger (category 3) for 23‑24 June 2026. The regions include Attica, Boeotia, Argolis, Corinthia, Lemnos, Chios, Psara, Samos, Ikaria, Karpathos, Kasos, Rhodes, Crete, parts of Evia and Phthiotis. The map is part of the national "IOLAOS 2" emergency plan and is intended to alert authorities and the public to heightened wildfire risk.

The agency outlined four risk levels and urged citizens to avoid activities that could ignite fires, such as outdoor welding, open‑flame barbecues in forests, discarding lit cigarettes, and using fireworks near dry vegetation. Residents are instructed to call the fire service at 199 (or the European emergency number 112) immediately if they spot a fire, providing precise location, type of vegetation, wind direction and fire intensity.

These preventive measures aim to protect lives, property and the natural environment during the peak summer fire season.
