Greek folk festivals showcase tradition in Thermi and Kardias

Hundreds of residents gathered on 3 July at the Thermi dam for the 5th Antamoma of societies, a cultural showcase featuring traditional dances, authentic costumes and live music performed by the Salonician Takimi orchestra. The event, organized by the Thermi municipality’s Culture and Sports Directorate and local folk clubs, highlighted the richness of Greek tradition and emphasized the importance of passing it to younger generations.

The following day the 27th Folkloric Antamoma opened in the central square of Kardias, Ptolemaida, marking the 50th anniversary of the village’s relocation and the 30th anniversary of the cultural association “I MERA”. The three‑day programme includes a children’s music‑dance festival with the “Nightingales of Florina” orchestra, performances by Orkestra Voras, and a concluding celebration with the local music school band, co‑organized by the Western Macedonia Region and the municipality of Eordaia.

Both festivals underline the vitality of regional cultural institutions in supporting community cohesion and preserving local heritage in Central Macedonia.
