Greek Forces Win Battle of Dervenakia, Halting Ottoman Advance in July 1822

From July 26‑28 1822, Greek troops under General Theodoros Kolokotronis defeated the Ottoman army led by Dramali Pasha in the Battle of Dervenakia on the Peloponnese. The victory stopped a large Ottoman force of about 35,000 men from advancing into the region and secured the early stages of the Greek War of Independence.

In 2023 a Greek hobbyist, Sarantis Gkavakis, built a detailed Playmobil diorama of the battle using more than 400 custom‑painted figures. The display, the first of its kind in Greece, has drawn interest for its educational value, illustrating the historic clash for children and history enthusiasts alike.
