Greek Foreign Minister Gerapetris Denies Fake Dinner with PASOK Leaders
The Sunday edition of the newspaper «Estia» on 2 August 2026 ran a front‑page story claiming a secret dinner at a businessman’s house attended by Foreign Minister Georgios Gerapetris, PASOK members Anna Diamanopoulou and Manolis Christodoulakis, and suggesting talks about a coalition government. The article was illustrated with a photograph that the parties said was produced by artificial‑intelligence software.
All three officials issued statements rejecting the claim as completely false, fabricated and defamatory. They noted that the newspaper had not sought their comment before publishing and demanded an immediate retraction and apology. Gerapetris called the piece “absolute fantasy” and warned it threatened the political climate. Diamanopoulou and Christodoulakis also threatened legal action, sending cease‑and‑desist notices to the website radar.gr. Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakos condemned the use of AI‑generated images and fake news as a danger to democracy, urging a united response against such misinformation.
