Greek GDP grows 2% in Q1 2026 on surge in private investment
Greece's gross domestic product increased by 2 % year‑on‑year in the first quarter of 2026, according to ELSTAT's quarterly national accounts. The main driver was private gross fixed capital formation, which jumped 12.1 %, while overall final consumption rose 1 % (household spending up 0.7 % and government consumption up 1.6 %).
Exports of goods and services grew 2.4 % (goods +2.8 %, services +3.1 %). Imports rose modestly by 0.5 %, with goods falling 0.6 % and services increasing 3.2 %. On a quarterly basis versus the previous year's fourth quarter, GDP showed a marginal 0.2 % increase, consumption rose 0.6 % driven solely by the public sector, private investment fell 2.5 %, exports edged up 0.3 % (goods –1.6 %, services +1.2 %) and imports fell 0.6 % (goods –1.9 %, services +4.2 %).
