Greek Government and Deutsche Welle meet following Greek service rescue
Pavlos Marinakis, Deputy Minister attached to the Prime Minister, met with a delegation from Deutsche Welle (DW) at the Maximos Mansion. The meeting followed the successful preservation of DW’s Greek-language programming.
The DW delegation, including Director General Barbara Massing and Director of European Programs Adelheid Feilcke, expressed gratitude for the Greek government’s role in securing the service. Discussions also covered broader media issues, including DW’s initiatives to increase its social media presence.
Maria Antoniadou, President of the Journalists' Union of Athens (ESHEA), highlighted recent collaborative efforts between the government and the union. These include a new collective bargaining agreement for public sector journalists, training for war correspondents, and the integration of directives to combat Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs).
Minister Marinakis noted that legislative actions over the past three years have aimed to enhance media transparency, protect jobs, and improve registries for print and electronic media. He also referenced a new five-year support mechanism for media outlets approved by the European Commission.
