Greek Government Boosts Judges' Pay by Up to 90% Ahead of Elections

The Greek government approved a pre‑election wage package that raises the salaries of judges and prosecutors by 50% to 90%, depending on seniority. The increases apply after 12 years of service (50% of the pay gap to the next grade) and after 17 years (90% of the gap), as stipulated in Law 5313/2026. The law also aligns judicial pay with that of the Legal Council of the State and is part of a broader legislative bill aimed at tackling the energy crisis and enhancing disposable income.

The measure follows earlier salary hikes for metropolitan bishops and reinstates special allowances for staff of the Presidency of the Republic. It represents a significant public‑sector pay rise just before the scheduled elections.
