Greek government considers raising 300‑euro pensioner benefit

The Greek government is reviewing a possible increase of the annual 300‑euro social assistance payment that will be paid in November to roughly 1.7 million citizens. Proposals call for raising the amount to 350 euros or even 400 euros, subject to fiscal capacity.

Eligibility is limited to pensioners who are 65 years old (or 60 for widows) and who meet specific income and property thresholds – up to €25,000 annual income and €300,000 real‑estate value for single individuals, higher limits for married or cohabiting persons. Recipients also include disability pensioners and certain other insured groups. Those who fall below the age limit or exceed the financial thresholds are excluded.
