Greek government denies pursuing ‘woke agenda’ amid political shifts

Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis addressed recent political tensions, stating that the administration does not possess or seek to implement a ‘woke agenda.’ Speaking from the Thessaloniki International Fair, Marinakis noted that while the government acknowledges mistakes made during seven years of governance and amidst international crises, New Democracy remains the most viable option for future leadership.

Marinakis emphasized that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s upcoming speech at the fair will go beyond economic measures to outline Greece’s strategic priorities for 2030. He argued that traditional political divisions have shifted following the era of ‘easy money’ and that the government aims to focus on realism and common sense rather than old political labels.

Separately, political analysis suggests that the friction between former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and the current government over social issues, such as same-sex marriage, highlights a growing electoral space to the right of New Democracy. This shift follows the 2023 political ruptures, creating a fragmented voter base that may seek centrist solutions, abstain from voting, or move toward new political alignments.
