Greek government Falcon crash anniversary

The 27th anniversary of the Falcon 900B aviation tragedy marks the memory of the seven people who lost their lives during a Greek government mission to Bucharest on September 14, 1999.

While the aircraft successfully landed at Bucharest's Otopeni Airport with minimal external damage, extreme vertical oscillations occurred during the descent. Within a 24-second window, the plane experienced ten sudden oscillations with accelerations reaching +4.7 g and -3.26 g. This caused violent chaos inside the cabin, throwing unbuckled passengers against the ceiling, walls, and floor.

The victims included Deputy Foreign Minister Giannos Kranidiotis and his 23-year-old son, Nikolas. Also killed were ERT journalists Dimitris Pantazopoulos and Nina Asimakopoulou, security officer Nikos Asimakopoulos, and engineer Michalis Papadopoulos. ERT cameraman Panagiotis Poulos sustained severe injuries and passed away days later in Greece, bringing the total death toll to seven.
