Greece raises tax‑free tip limit to €6,000 per year

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that the tax‑free threshold for electronic tips (tips paid via POS or other electronic means) will be increased from the current €300 per month to €6,000 per year. The new limit will be calculated on an annual basis and will apply retroactively from 1 January 2026, covering the current summer season. Workers employed year‑round will be able to claim roughly €500 per month tax‑free, while seasonal employees in hospitality and tourism can receive up to €1,000 per month when they work six months a year. The government plans to submit the amendment to parliament in September, with a vote expected shortly. The exemption from social‑security contributions that was introduced in 2024 will remain in force.
