Greek government plans €1‑2 billion stimulus for Thessaloniki International Fair

The Greek finance ministry announced a stimulus package exceeding €1 billion to support the upcoming Thessaloniki International Fair. The measures, aimed primarily at self‑employed professionals and small‑medium enterprises, will be finalised by August in coordination with the prime minister.

Five main scenarios are being examined, with an initial fiscal space of about €1.5 billion that could rise to €2 billion depending on the evolution of the Middle‑East crisis and energy price pressures. Options include adjustments to the tax assessment base for roughly 670,000 freelancers, possible cuts to the minimum taxable income, expanded tax exemptions, and the potential abolition of the professional activity tax for legal entities from 1 January 2027. The final package will balance short‑term household and business support against longer‑term fiscal sustainability.
