Greek Tax Relief Package Planned for Thessaloniki International Exhibition
Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Dimitris Markopoulos has been meeting with business chambers, professional federations and pensioner groups to gather input for a fiscal package slated for presentation at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition in early September. The government’s draft measures focus on tax relief for self‑employed professionals and SMEs, a possible increase of the minimum wage above €950, higher annual support for retirees and the removal of several fees such as the professional levy. Housing reforms are also under discussion, including cuts to ENFIA, tax incentives for rental income and a flexible “My Home III” programme aimed at expanding the supply of closed dwellings.
At the same time, Parliamentarian Milena Apostolaki of PASOK‑Movement for Change warned that private debt in Greece has now surpassed €250 billion and that the current extrajudicial debt‑relief mechanism lacks transparency, appeal rights and effective oversight. She called for a sustainable solution that genuinely protects debtors while balancing creditor interests.
