Greek Government Spokesperson Warns Samaras Party Move Could Justify His Expulsion

Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinas told Action 24 that if former prime minister Antonis Samaras establishes a new political party, it would “justify his expulsion” from New Democracy (ND). He emphasized that ND will not become a “New Left” or DIMAR, arguing that disagreements within a large party are legitimate only when kept inside the organisation.

Marinas also drew a clear line between Samaras and former deputy prime minister Kostas Karamanlis, noting that Karamanlis has voiced criticism while remaining within ND. He warned that continual formation of splinter parties whenever members are dissatisfied would undermine the party’s cohesion and identity.
