Greek government unveils €1.3 bn infrastructure resilience plan and senior job subsidy scheme

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, led by Christos Dimas, announced a road and rail infrastructure restoration programme that surpasses €1.3 billion, with roughly €500 million coming from the EU Recovery and Resilience Fund. The plan targets 1,007 intervention points across the road network, incorporates flood‑protection works on the Patra‑Pyrgos highway, and will employ technologies such as artificial intelligence to improve design, maintenance and climate‑change resilience. It also calls for greater private‑sector participation through tax incentives.

Separately, the Manpower Employment Agency (DYPA) launched a subsidised employment programme for about 8,000 unemployed Greeks aged 55 and over. Participants will receive two‑year contracts in public bodies and municipalities, earning a minimum wage of €920 per month, with the state covering 75 % of labour costs—up to €750—to help them accumulate the 4,500 days of contributions required for a full old‑age pension. The scheme aims to fill vacancies in cleaning and other public‑service roles while easing demographic and labour‑market pressures.
