Greek government weighs 13th national pension for retirees

The Greek government's economic team is examining a proposal to convert the permanent €300 pension supplement paid each November into a permanent 13th national pension of €446.87 per year. The measure would act as an additional pension paid annually to all eligible retirees.

Estimated annual cost ranges from about €200 million for a modest increase to €400 per pension, up to roughly €300 billion if the supplement is fully aligned with the national pension level. The plan also considers widening the eligibility criteria to include pensioners under 65 and adjusting the solidarity contribution so that only the portion of a pension exceeding €1,468 would be subject to deductions.
