Greek government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis pledges tax cuts and housing support ahead of 2027 elections

Pavlos Marinakis, the government’s spokesperson and deputy minister, told reporters that the administration will introduce further measures for housing and tax relief targeting the middle class, small‑and‑medium enterprises and self‑employed professionals. He said the government is considering a “fairer estimated income” scheme for compliant freelancers and may use incentives to encourage owners of vacant homes to bring them back onto the market.

Marinakis stressed that the government will be judged on “effectiveness” rather than pre‑election campaigning, noting that “the elections will be held in the spring of 2027” and that the pre‑election period only begins the day after the previous polls. He rejected any policy changes made solely to win the “chair” of power and ruled out collaborations with opposition parties such as PASOK, Tsipras’ Syriza or Samaras’ movement.

He also highlighted the upcoming International Thessaloniki Fair (DETH) as a platform to present the next four‑year programme, underlining actions to curb inflation, support vulnerable groups, and improve energy supply, while portraying the government’s fiscal stance as balanced despite reductions in dozens of taxes.
