Greek Greens call for balcony solar panels in new micro‑solar draft

The Greens – Ecology party in Greece has asked the Ministry of Environment and Energy to simplify the draft Ministerial Decision on plug‑and‑play micro‑solar systems of up to 800 W. The party argues that the proposal should enable households to install balcony photovoltaic panels and avoid bureaucratic hurdles that could keep thousands of families from reducing their electricity bills.

The draft, currently under public consultation, adds technical declarations and administrative steps without providing subsidies, contrary to practices in several EU countries. The Greens cite Germany’s subsidies of up to €500 per installation and streamlined procedures that have led to hundreds of thousands of balcony solar units. They also highlight concerns in the Thessaly region, where solar farms are being built on agricultural land, stressing that simple rooftop solutions should support energy democracy and protect farmland.

The party warns that the extra paperwork could turn a straightforward technology into a costly, small‑scale power station, undermining the goal of an inclusive energy transition.
