Greek grid operator ADME raises €1 billion capital to fund island and Italy power links
Greek electricity grid operator ADME is launching a €1 billion capital increase, the first since 2014, to finance a €6 billion investment programme for critical transmission projects. The public sector, holding 51% of ADME, will contribute €530 million, with €370 million coming from the EU‑backed Recovery and Resilience Fund and €160 million from DES ADME. Private investors are expected to raise about €250 million, and the book of offers will be open from 16 to 18 June.
The enlarged capital will support major interconnections, including the 430‑km subsea link between the mainland and the Dodecanese, extensions in the North Aegean islands, and the second Greece‑Italy high‑voltage link (GRITA 2) that will add 1 GW of capacity. State Grid of China retains a 24% stake, while the offering has attracted demand roughly four times the amount sought, signalling strong market confidence in the project’s role in Greece’s energy transition and security.
