Greek GSEE urges repeal of Sunday work exemption in draft law
The General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) has asked the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to withdraw article 37 of the draft law that would broaden exemptions allowing work on Sundays and public holidays for additional industrial sectors. The union says the provision would intensify work schedules and jeopardise workers' health and safety, particularly during the hot summer climate.
GSEE praised the draft’s adoption of the EU Directive 2023/970 on wage transparency, the recognition of collective agreements as tools for wage openness, and the reinstatement of the Equality Department at the Supreme Labour Council. However, it argues that the new exemption clause undermines these advances in gender equality, collective bargaining and wage‑transparency measures and must be removed.
