Greek Health Minister discusses digitization and innovation in Abu Dhabi

Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis addressed the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit, highlighting the rapid digitization of Greece’s healthcare system. He noted that 11 million Greek citizens now utilize the ‘MyHealth’ mobile application, which provides access to medical histories, test results, and real-time digitized MRI data. Additionally, the country has achieved full digitization of its prescription system and collaborated with the World Health Organization to create the ‘HealthIQ’ platform to assess healthcare capacity at the municipal level.

Georgiadis also discussed the economic challenges posed by pharmaceutical innovation. He emphasized that advancements in genomics and genome sequencing are shifting medicine from a reactive approach to a preventative one. While describing these scientific breakthroughs as a ‘real revolution’ for humanity, he warned that the high costs of such innovations may place significant pressure on national healthcare budgets, necessitating more efficient resource management.
