Greek healthcare workers protest against public health system degradation
Healthcare workers from Crete, including representatives from Agios Nikolaos Hospital, participated in a nationwide mobilization in Thessaloniki to protest against current healthcare policies. The demonstrators expressed opposition to what they describe as the degradation of the public health system and the potential for increased privatization.
The workers are demanding several key improvements for the National Health System (ESY), including 20% salary increases, the immediate reinstatement of the 13th and 14th month salaries, and massive recruitment of permanent staff. They also called for increased funding, better working conditions, and the protection of labor rights for all employees working in unhealthy environments.
A follow-up nationwide rally is scheduled for Saturday, September 5, at 17:30 in Xanthi Square, Thessaloniki.
