Greek industrial production index jumps 23% in April 2026

The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) announced that the General Index of Industrial Production rose 23.0% in April 2026 compared with the same month a year earlier, reversing a 9.4% drop recorded for April 2025. The index also increased 2.1% from March 2026.

For the twelve‑month period May 2025 – April 2026 the overall index was 4.5% higher than the May 2024 – April 2025 period. Manufacturing contributed most to the rise, with its sub‑index up 23.3%, driven by higher output in sectors such as coal‑derived fuels, motor vehicle production, electrical equipment and leather goods. Mining and quarrying showed a modest 1.1% gain.

Domestic market activity grew 5.1% while the external‑market sub‑index surged 59.2%, reflecting strong demand abroad. Within the external segment, the manufacturing sub‑index rose 60.6% and the mining‑quarrying sub‑index fell 11.0%. The external index outside the euro area climbed 78.0% and within the euro zone 35.3%.

These figures indicate a robust rebound in Greek industry, particularly in export‑oriented manufacturing, after a year of contraction.
