Greek inflation eases to 4.4% in June 2026

The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) reported that Greece's consumer price index rose 4.4% year‑on‑year in June 2026, a slowdown from 5.2% in May. Monthly figures were unchanged from May. Food prices remained high, with beef up 15.6%, lamb and goat up 16.2%, and other staples such as bread, poultry and dairy also rising. Olive‑oil prices fell 12.8%. Housing costs jumped 10.6% driven by a 7.1% rise in rents and higher expenses for repairs, electricity, natural gas (+24.6%) and heating oil (+53.2%). Transport prices increased 7.2%, reflecting higher fuel costs (petrol +12.8%, diesel +12%), new‑car prices and a 15.6% surge in air‑fare. Service sectors also saw price pressure, with hotels, cafés and restaurants up 7.7% and insurance‑related fees climbing 3.4%. The moderation in overall inflation is partly attributed to the cease‑fire in the Middle East announced on 8 April, which eased energy market tensions, though the situation remains fragile.
