Greek investors drive major maritime and venture capital expansions
Greek investors are significantly expanding their footprint in both the maritime and technology sectors. In the shipping industry, Greek shipowners have ordered over 1,000 new commercial vessels, marking one of the largest shipbuilding programs globally. This includes 463 tankers, representing approximately 28% of all new tanker orders worldwide. The fleet renewal focuses on modern technology and fuel efficiency to enhance economic prospects and employment.
In the venture capital sector, Greek investors have contributed $70 million to Endeavor Catalyst’s Fund V, a record-breaking $320 million fund. Representing roughly 22% of the total fund, this is the largest contribution among more than 40 participating markets. The investor group includes Greece’s four systemic banks: Alpha Bank, Eurobank, National Bank of Greece, and Piraeus Bank. These funds are being deployed globally to support high-growth companies, including those founded by Greeks, across diverse markets such as Ukraine, Jordan, Nigeria, and Spain.
