Greek island of Kea tops list of secret islands for hiking and diving

A recent feature on the Dutch travel site Griekenland.net ranked the Cycladic island of Kea first among five Greek “hidden” islands noted for hiking, snorkeling and diving. The article highlights more than 80 km of marked walking trails, many of which follow ancient stone‑paved routes that connect historic villages and former city‑states, winding through oak forests, verdant valleys, old watermills and farmland. A key cultural attraction is the ancient archaeological site of Carthaea, set in a scenic seaside location, accessible via a dedicated hiking path.

Kea is also promoted as a prime diving destination, with underwater caves, shipwrecks and abundant marine life such as sponges and octopuses. Despite its proximity to Athens, the island is described as retaining an authentic character throughout the summer months.
