Greek Island Regions Sign Cooperation Memorandum in Rhodes

On 30 July 2026, the governors of Greece’s four island regions – Crete, the North Aegean, the Ionian Islands and the South Aegean – met in Rhodes and signed a Cooperation Memorandum. The agreement builds on the earlier “Corfu Declaration” and establishes a permanent framework for coordinating policies on sustainable tourism, heritage protection, local‑economic development and the use of new technologies across the islands.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Finance and Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis, who delivered the keynote address. The signing was followed by a joint press conference and a public forum titled “Four Regions, One Vision”, organised with the Rhodes, Technical and Economic Chambers. Participants highlighted the goal of a unified strategy for the islands’ long‑term growth and resilience.

The memorandum aims to strengthen institutional cooperation among the regions, facilitate joint projects, and align their development plans with the EU’s 2030 Sustainable Tourism Agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
