Greek islands see disparate summer 2026 holiday costs

Market analysis by the short‑term rental association Beyond shows that Greek islands are experiencing sharply divergent price trends for the 2026 high‑season. On popular Cyclades such as Santorini and Mykonos, nightly rates for short‑term rentals have risen by about 15 % and 7 % respectively, while Rhodos saw a 23 % increase. Overall occupancy across the islands stands at roughly 41 % amid strong demand.

Conversely, cheaper options remain on less‑touristed islands. On Kos, five‑night stays can be booked for under €1,000, with typical restaurant meals costing around €15 and car rentals ranging from €30‑42 per day. Ikaria offers even lower accommodation costs, usually €400‑600 for five nights, meals at €13, but higher car‑rental fees of €82‑94 per day. These price differentials highlight how demand, limited supply and island popularity shape holiday expenses for German and other European travellers this summer.

Travelers are advised to compare platforms such as Airbnb, Booking.com and Numbeo, and to consider less‑crowded destinations to keep costs manageable.
