Greek Justice Minister and Judges' Association President clash
Tensions have escalated between Christoforos Sevastidis, President of the Association of Judges and Prosecutors (EnDE), and Greek Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis. The friction arose during an EnDE seminar held at the National Gallery regarding judicial ethics and addressing extreme behaviors of lawyers toward judicial officers.
Despite being included in the event program until the last moment, Minister Floridis did not attend. Instead, he sent a written letter, which was read by EnDE Vice President Ioannis Asproggerakas. In his correspondence, Floridis emphasized the distinct institutional roles of judges and lawyers and offered recommendations for maintaining a calm climate.
Sevastidis expressed sharp dissatisfaction with the Minister's absence and the content of the letter. He stated that the Association was not looking for “calm advice” or “institutional advice” from the government, but rather “institutional interventions.” Sevastidis further noted that the Minister had previously committed to addressing these issues months ago, implying that no substantive action has been taken since.
