Greek Justice Minister Opens New Athens Court of Appeal Hall

Justice Minister George Floridis inaugurated a new courtroom at the Athens Court of Appeal on Wednesday, attended by Deputy Minister Ioannis Bougas, General Secretary Pelops Laskos, court president Sofia Lignou and senior judges. The hall is equipped to host large, multi‑party trials and is part of a broader modernization programme that includes installing air‑conditioning—described by Floridis as “a nightmare at the start”—re‑tiling 5 500 sqm of floor space, revamping the Justice Square, and preparing an underground parking facility for about 1 500 vehicles. The completed works cost more than five million euros.

The upgrades aim to improve court efficiency, comfort for judges, lawyers and the public, and to accelerate the handling of final judgments in civil and criminal cases.
