Greek MP Dimitris Kyriatzidis referred to Parliament Ethics Committee over sexist remark
President of the Hellenic Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis referred New Democracy MP Dimitris Kyriatzidis to the Parliament’s Ethics Committee after the lawmaker repeated a sexist comment towards Zoi Konstantopoulou, President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Freedom. The remark – “go have no child” – had previously led to Kyriatzidis’s expulsion from the New Democracy parliamentary group in March 2025 and his reinstatement in October 2025. He described the comment as a “wish” or “goodwill” and claimed it was a harmless “wish”.
Culture Minister Lina Mendoni and several opposition MPs condemned the statement as sexist and damaging to parliamentary dignity, demanding Kyriatzidis’s removal from the party’s parliamentary faction. The Ethics Committee will examine the session transcript to determine whether Kyriatzidis breached the parliamentary code of conduct. The incident sparked heightened tension and a wave of condemnation across party lines within the Greek Parliament.
