Greek Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis clashes with MP Zoi Konstantopoulou in Parliament

During a plenary session on a constitutional amendment, Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis launched a personal attack on Zoi Konstantopoulou, president of the Freedom Movement. Floridis compared Konstantopoulou to Japanese soldiers of the Second World War, saying, “You remind me of Japanese soldiers… the war has already ended,” and accused her of being a “crude, appointed figure” rather than an elected one.

Konstantopoulou responded by calling Floridis a “crude appointee” and rebuked his remarks, emphasizing that democracy was being threatened. The exchange also referenced the opposition parties PASOK and SYRIZA, with Floridis alleging they were undermining the constitutional process. The heated verbal duel highlighted deep partisan tensions in the Greek parliament.
