Greek Labor Minister Niki Keramios expands Digital Work Card and advances insurance and four‑day work reforms
The Greek Ministry of Labour, led by Minister Niki Keramios, announced a pilot expansion of the Digital Work Card to additional sectors—including consulting, advertising, repair services, logistics, water management and gambling—effective until 15 November 2026, with full rollout slated for 16 November. The extension will cover an additional 476 000 employees, bringing the total protected workforce to about 2.5 million, and has already boosted reported overtime in some sectors by up to 1 200 %.
In parallel, the government introduced a draft law on Professional Insurance Funds (TEA) that will enter a consultation phase in July. The proposal seeks to broaden participation by offering tax incentives, abolishing a penalty tax, and introducing a group professional pension product integrated into the second pillar of the pension system. The bill is expected to be voted on in the autumn parliament session.
Keramios also highlighted the implementation of a four‑day work week on a pilot basis in large companies, noting that the legal framework is already in place and citing OTE’s recent adoption as evidence of feasibility. Additionally, she marked the completion of the first phase of workers' housing projects in Grevena, delivering 40 homes to families and planning the remaining units in the coming weeks.
