Greek labor unions protest municipal worker conditions
Labor unions in Greece are raising serious concerns regarding the working conditions and safety of municipal employees in different regions.
In the Municipality of Aktio-Vonitsa, the POE-OTA federation has criticized local authorities over decisions to relocate school cleaners. The union claims these moves impose significant financial burdens on workers earning approximately 400 euros per month and may lead to resignations. Additionally, the federation has accused the municipal administration of attempting to pressure employees to leave their current union for others.
In the Municipality of Skopelos, the DAS-OTA union is demanding the immediate decommissioning of dangerous vehicles used by the sanitation service. Union representatives reported that garbage trucks are in such poor condition that workers must use makeshift repairs to operate them. They specifically highlighted an old refuse vehicle with faulty brakes and steering, posing a risk to workers and public safety, especially during heavy rain and wind.
