Greek Labour Inspection imposes €25.6 million fines over Digital Work Card violations

The Greek Labour Inspection carried out 41,486 inspections in the first half of 2026, uncovering 8,690 breaches and issuing fines totalling €25.6 million. 1,695 of those violations involved the Digital Work Card system, resulting in €7.22 million in penalties, while undeclared employment accounted for €6.7 million.

Other significant infractions included non‑payment of wages and benefits (€2.41 million in fines), obstruction of inspectors (€1.41 million), and failure to submit required staff forms (€0.98 million). Compared with the same period in 2025, inspections rose from 38,093 to 41,486 and the total fines increased from €21.9 million to €25.6 million, indicating a tightening of enforcement.

The findings highlight persistent gaps in compliance despite the expanded use of digital monitoring tools, prompting calls for stricter oversight and more rigorous application of labour legislation.
