Greek Labour Minister Niki Keramios launches new employment schemes and wage‑gap bill
Labour and Social Security Minister Niki Keramios announced the expansion of Greece’s employment programmes. The 55‑plus initiative, aimed at long‑term unemployed aged 55 and over, has already helped more than 30,000 people and will be enlarged in the coming weeks. A parallel scheme for job‑seekers with disabilities, without age limit, is also being rolled out to improve their access to public‑sector jobs.
Keramios also presented a draft law to narrow the gender pay gap, transposing an EU directive. Current data show women in Greece earn 13.4% less than men, compared with an 11% gap across the EU. The legislation proposes measures both before and after hiring to ensure equal pay for equal work regardless of gender.
