Greek language future discussed at Sydney symposium

The 12th International Summer University, titled ‘Greek Language, Culture and Media’, recently concluded at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. The event focused on the future of the Greek language in Australia as the diaspora enters a mature, multi-generational phase.

Under the auspices of Greek President Konstantinos Tassoulas and supported by the General Secretariat for Diaspora Greeks, the symposium gathered academics, researchers, educators, and members of the Greek community. Discussions centered on how fourth and fifth-generation descendants can maintain the language in a multicultural society, noting that language transmission can no longer rely solely on family heritage but requires new social, educational, and cultural frameworks.
