Greek Larissa Courtroom Expanded for Tempi Train Crash Trial

The courtroom of the Larissa Court of Criminal Appeals was upgraded to accommodate the ongoing trial over the Tempi railway disaster. The venue, located in the “Gaiaopolis” conference centre of the University of Thessaly, was expanded from about 284 sqm to 452 sqm and seating capacity was increased by roughly 100 places. An additional audience hall of 109.6 sqm will serve as a public viewing area with screens.

The renovations were carried out by the Ministry of Justice after a request from the plenary of the presidents of Greece’s Bar Associations to ensure the trial proceeds smoothly. Presiding judge Maria Lianou issued a supplementary corrective act informing the bar associations of the new courtroom specifications. The expanded facilities will be used when the trial resumes on 27 May 2026.
