Greek Left Alliance ELAS Announces Shadow Cabinet of 24 Sector Heads
The Greek Left Alliance (ELAS), led by former prime minister Alexis Tsipras, will announce its first “shadow government” within the week. Twenty‑four sector heads will occupy roles equivalent to ministerial positions, intended to monitor and challenge the current Mitsotakis administration.
The party’s National Council meets on Saturday for the first time, comprising the 301 founding members of the declaration plus an additional 50–70 members to increase female and regionally under‑represented representation. ELAS is also establishing a 75‑member Political Committee and a 15‑member Coordination Center as its top decision‑making bodies. Potential names for sector heads mentioned in media include Evgenia Fotoniata, Dionysis Temponeras, Dimitris Liakos, Franciskos Koutendakis, Spyros Dritsas, Maria Lepenioti, Haris Zimitras, as well as senior figures George Houlierakis and Kostas Gavrogoulou.
