Greek Left Coalition criticizes government savings and tax proposals

Nikos Nyfoudis, deputy spokesperson for the Greek Left Coalition (ELAS), has criticized recent government announcements regarding economic measures. Nyfoudis argued that the government's proposed 'savings piggy bank for the new generation' functions as a savings mechanism rather than substantive support for young people, noting it fails to address the needs of families struggling with monthly expenses.

Regarding the proposed 1% 'patriotic contribution,' Nyfoudis clarified that the ELAS proposal specifically targets very large fortunes. He sought to reassure the public that the measure does not threaten the personal assets of average citizens, stating, “the bracelets of everyone are not at risk at all.” He emphasized that while the savings measure may benefit some, the state must ensure social targeting to support those without the financial capacity to save.
