Greek Left Coalition ELAS Rejects Parliamentary Seats, Calls for Volunteer Membership
Nikos Nifoudis, deputy spokesperson for the Greek Left Coalition (ELAS), said the movement will not seek seats in parliament and will not make special provisions for elected officials or senior party figures. "We do not want MPs because we do not want ELAS to have a voice in this Parliament, especially after our president Alexis Tsipras handed over his seat," he told Status FM.
ELAS requires anyone wishing to join – whether former SYRIZA members, party leaders or ordinary citizens – to register on the myelas.gr platform, submit a résumé and undergo evaluation by party committees. The process treats all applicants equally, with over 50,000 registrations to date. Committees will decide whether candidates become eligible for future candidacies.
