Greek Left Coalition expands regional presence and youth wing

The Greek Left Coalition (ELAS) is transitioning from its foundational phase to a regional organizational strategy. Following the political presentation by Alexis Tsipras, the party is shifting its focus toward local communities through 59 Coordinating Committees. This expansion aims to establish a permanent presence in neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and hospitals across the country.

To support this growth, party Secretary Miltos Chatzigiannakis is overseeing the activation of hundreds of officials and the creation of networks at the municipal level. Alexis Tsipras is also scheduled to conduct several regional tours starting in mid-October to bolster this grassroots movement.

Simultaneously, the party is launching a youth-focused structure known as ‘New Generation ELAS’. This initiative aims to engage members up to 35 years of age. The new organization is expected to be led by Dimitris Paterelis, with Panos Lampryni-Stachtos also playing a key role. The plan includes appointing youth officers within each of the 59 Coordinating Committees and designating approximately 500 sectoral officials to manage 24 thematic areas.
