Greek Left Symparataxis criticizes government over unemployment benefit proposal
The Greek Left Symparataxis (EL.A.S.) has launched a sharp critique against Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis regarding a proposal to drastically limit unemployment benefits to two months.
Spokesperson Theoni Koufonikolakou challenged the government's claim that the proposal, made by government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis, represents only a “personal opinion.” She argued that government spokespeople do not express personal views on major policy issues and that such statements typically reflect official government planning.
Koufonikolakou criticized the Prime Minister for his silence on the matter for several consecutive days, noting the impact on hundreds of thousands of workers, particularly those in the tourism sector who rely on these benefits after the seasonal work period. She called on Mitsotakis to clarify whether the government adopts or rejects the proposed restrictions.
