Greek lobby urges Trump to halt F110 jet engine sales to Turkey

The American Hellenic Institute (AHI), representing Greek interests, sent a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump urging the withdrawal of a proposal to sell GE Aerospace F110 jet engines to Turkey. The proposed sale, valued at more than $700 million, would support Turkey’s KAAN fifth‑generation fighter program and could pave the way for Turkey to acquire F‑35 aircraft. The lobby cited concerns that the sale violates the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) and referenced Turkey’s purchase of the Russian S‑400 system, ongoing disputes with Greece in the Aegean, and other actions they deem contrary to NATO standards. AHI called for the United States to block the engine sale and any legal pathway that might enable Turkey to obtain F‑35s, warning that the move would create a “catastrophic” situation for Greek security.
